conectado a Deus

The Tribe
“Is God a DJ? Well, in a way thinking about Him like that can be quite helpful. It was God who first spun the universe into existence. He balanced out the planets in perfect order and set up the right conditions here on earth so that life could thrive.”
[PROFILE]

The Tribe was conceived in 1992—the brain child of Andy Hawthorne and Mark Pennels. Nearly a decade later, the line-up may have changed but the crew is still churning out “jackhammer grooves and relentlessly upbeat messages.” Billboard called The Tribe’s music “as club-credible and stylistically diverse as it is lyrically earnest.” Manchester, England is the band’s stomping ground and the center of their non-profit work with youth and local schools. The Tribe’s much anticipated recent release Take Back the Beat is now available.

[INTERVIEW] Andy Hawthorne speaks with Nappaland

Nappaland: What would you tell people who say, “Christianity seems too hard for me.”
Andy H.: I’d say "You’re right. It is too hard for you. You cannot possibly do this on your own. If you try and do it on your own, you’ll fail dismally. But we’re able to make a go of Christian life, despite it being the most challenging, radical, revolutionary lifestyle, by the power of the spirit of Jesus within. That’s the kind of walk Jesus wants." I would rather one kid in Manchester got that than thousands just sign up at the end of a concert and say, "We’re going to start going to church."

Nappaland: How did you become a Christian?
Andy H.: Simon [my brother] became a Christian. He was a punk rocker in the 70’s—you know, the whole drug thing and trouble with the police. I saw such a radical change in his lifestyle, it made me want to go to church and check it out. I did for about six months and got to the point where I became convinced it’s true. I decided to follow Jesus, because I knew it was true. I was 17.
