“When I read about Jesus’ life, I have often been arrested by his call to walk with the faith of a child and the strength of a warrior. The paradox seems impossible to achieve. But the clincher is that, for me, God supplies the faith and the strength.

“My goals in life are to commune with God and to glorify Him. My goal in photography is to see the world through God’s eyes. On my best days I think I get a glimpse.

“I love a passage from the Bible that says, ‘God has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet we cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.’”

Denise studied art and photojournalism at the University of Missouri where the international atmosphere drew her to explore life beyond her own experiences.

She traveled throughout Asia and Europe before working as a photographer at several daily newspapers in the US. In 1999 she began working internationally again and her photo stories of Latin America and Africa have appeared in several publications.

She prefers an intimate style of photography, getting to know a person so they allow her into their life as she documents it. Then she makes a series of candid pictures that each reveal something new about the person or culture. Her goal is to find something unique about each person while showing what we all have in common.

She currently lives outside London.
